Before buying a ritter built-in system, please always check if the internal dimensions of the drawer intended for installation are sufficient and if there is a power supply available in (or behind) the cabinet.

The optimum installation

Appliance cannot be fully swivelled out / food to be sliced touches kitchen cabinets

This problem occurs if the appliance is installed inside a kitchen drawer directly next to an angled worktop or a tall kitchen cabinet (high board, refrigerator, etc.). When the models BFS 62 SR, BFS 62 SL and BFS 72 SR are folded out, they swivel to the side by approx. 11 cm. In combination with an angled worktop, unfolding the machine would not be possible.

In case of installation next to a tall kitchen cabinet, the functionality may be restricted as large pieces food could not be fully sliced and would potentially touch the kitchen cabinet.

Contrary to popular belief, the various types of built-in food slicers (BFS 62 SL for slicing from the left or BFS 62 SR for slicing from the right) are not intended as variants for right-handed and left-handed users but offer alternatives for planning of various installation conditions.

If an angled worktop or tall kitchen cabinet (highboard, refrigerator, etc.) is located right next to the kitchen drawer intended for installation of the built-in food slicer, slicing should be guided on the opposite side. If there is sufficient space, e.g. in extra-wide kitchen drawers, the problem can be avoided by positioning the appliance at maximum clearance to the angled worktop or kitchen cabinet.

The optimum installation

The clear height of the drawer is insufficient / when the device is installed, the drawer cannot be closed anymore / the device rubs against the cabinet crossbeam

This problem occurs e.g. with drawers with underfloor guides. The technology for dampening, self-closing of the drawer, etc. is installed below the drawer for design reasons which reduces the clear height of the drawer. Consequeuntly, an installed built-in food slicer, built-in toaster oder built-in hand blender rubs against the crossbeam or the drawer cannot be closed at all.

Most kitchens have a wooden crossbeam with a thickness of approx. 16 mm installed below the worktop. On one hand, the crossbeam ensures the stability of the cabinet (e.g. during transport), on the other hand, it is used to mount the worktop.

If it is not possible to install the device due to insufficient clear height, you can gain approx. 14 mm of clear height by removing the wooden crossbeam and replacing it by a metal crossbeam.

You can order these metal crossbeams as optional accessories from your distributor or from ritter customer service.

Please note that our metal crossbeams are intended for cabinet bases with a corpus wall thickness of 16 mm. For cabinets with a corpus wall thickness of more than 16 mm, the only possibility is to remove the crossbeam completely.

The optimum installation

The carriage / food hits the worktop during slicing

This problem occurs depending on the kitchen manufacturer e.g. with handleless kitchens that have a handle strip, deep drawers or when worktops have a higher thicknesses (> 40 mm). The distance between the bottom of the drawer and the top of the worktop should not exceed 160 mm. Otherwise you may have the problem of hitting the worktop with the food or even with the carriage during slicing.

Solution

For the BFS 72 SR, BFS 62 SR and BFS 62 SL models.

A version with higher mount is available. It ensures that the device swivels out of the drawer further up when extended and the carriage with the food is positioned higher than the worktop. The higher mount version is marked with an “–H” at the end of the device designation.

If the supplied accessories are not sufficient to bridge the difference in height between the support plate of the built-in food slicer and the worktop, a chipboard may be placed under the device for additional height.
